Information and Democracy Semantic Landscape

This work is an NLP-based interactive mapping of the literature on information ecosystems and democracy as defined in Mansell et al. (2025). In it, I leveraged word embeddings, umap dimensionality reduction, and hdbscan clustering to derive a semantic landscape in which each point represents one (or more) paragraph(s) of an academic source. I then employed a hybrid approach combining qualitative content analysis and topic modelling (BERTopic) to label the clusters. This project benefited from the advice of Prof. David Chavalarias and Dr. Paul Bauchaud at the CNRS Institute for Complex Systems, as well as of the OID scientific director Prof. Robin Mansell (LSE). The project is part of my work for the Observatory on Information and Democracy.
